Humanoid

A humanoid robot is a robot with its body shape built to resemble the human body. humanoid robots are being developed to perform human tasks like personal assistanc. They are also becoming increasingly popular as entertainers. For example, Ursula, a female robot, sings, plays music, dances, and speaks to her audiences at Universal Studios

  • One of the first recorded designs of a humanoid robot was made by Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) in around 1495. Leonardo’s notebooks, rediscovered in the 1950s, contain detailed drawings of a mechanical knight in armour which was able to sit up, wave its arms and move its head and jaw.
  • The first commercial, digital and programmable robot was built by George Devol in 1954 and was named the Unimate. It was sold to General Motors in 1961 where it was used to lift pieces of hot metal from die casting machines at the Inland Fisher Guide Plant in the West Trenton section of Ewing Township, New Jersey

How are robots created?

A typical robot has a movable physical structure, a motor of some sort, a sensor system, a power supply and a computer “brain” that controls all of these elements. Essentially, robots are man-made versions of animal life — they are machines that replicate human and animal behavior

  • A sensor is a device that measures some attribute of the world.
  • Actuators are the motors responsible for motion in the robot.

Robots were invented so that they can help in the performance of a variety of tasks. A robot is an automatic device that performs functions normally ascribed to humans or a machine in the form of a human
